What are the chances of me getting an auto loan at a bank?

I have poor credit. I got into financial trouble a while back. I have paid off most accounts, and am working to pay the rest. My credit score is somewhere between 490 and 515. If I have a cosigner with about 1.5 years of credit history with one credit card (should be a score about 700-720), can I get financed for a car with a bank? I am a member of a credit union, should I try there?

Try the CU but your cosigner doesn’t sound strong enough.

I would definitely try first where you are currently banking…but that credit score isn’t very good, so good luck.

I would definitely try the credit union first. They usually have options for any type of customer. You may have a higher interest rate at first, but try to refinance the loan every 6 months to lower the rate. I agree with the other person – your co-signer sounds like a weak one to me, and I doubt their score would be that high. Can you get a parent to go on it? Also, to get a definite score for yourself go to http://www.annualcreditreport.com. You can view your report once a year per credit bureau for free, and pay I believe $10 to get the score. It’s a great way to get a start on it yourself. Plus, by checking your own score it doesn’t negatively affect your credit. If you have the score ahead of time it may save yourself from lots of other creditors checking it (which will lower your score).
Also, it may help if you offer to have your account with them (the credit union or any other bank) so that they may automatically make the payments. Have your direct deposit from work go there, and that way you don’t have to worry about not making the payments and it will show the bank that you are ready to be on the good side of the fence when it comes to finances.
    Good Luck!! :)

I haven’t yet gotten into the bad credit realm yet, but I’m not counting it out lol. I just answered a similar question and I found a site for him using google. I swear there are thousands of these bad credit loan sites. The easiest one I seemed to find was http://insureexperts.info/accesscredithelp because they only ask for an e-mail. Wouldn’t hurt to try.
