Now that the federal government has decided to take over student loans (which we taxpayers guarantee anyway), we can expect all sorts of social engineering to creep into the program. Loans will be made based on profile rather than merit or the ability to repay them.
The president has already announced that he would like to forgive loans for those entering public service. This alone raises some questions: Does this mean the government is having trouble getting qualified applicants for open positions? Furthermore, doesn’t this provide maximum incentive to those least qualified and in the greatest debt? It means if you are unwilling to work or otherwise pay for your own education and are disqualified for scholarships, then the government wants you above all.
