Okay, here’s the situation…it’s long one so be prepared.
About 3 months ago I had a co-worker confide in me stating he needed a place to live (he’s 23 and was getting kicked out of his aunt and uncle’s house). My fiance and I have a 3 bedroom 2 bath home, naturally we had an open room, and without even thinking about it I offered it to him (stupid on my part I know) the house and the acre it is on belong to my parents (900 a month rent, plus power, cable, etc) since it was just him I told him he could pay 300 plus a third of the bills. We didn’t make him sign a contract (my fiance and I did with my parents of course…and they know about him moving in) because we thought he would be honest about paying on time. Well, then a month into him living here, he gets a girlfriend (I don’t hold that against him of course) then his money just started disappearing. He wouldn’t pay on time, then he asked if she could move in (she’s 19…and life is just so rough at home she can’t take it) we of course said yes, thinking oh good they can now pay half of everything (since that is only fair for 2 couples in a home…my parents know about this one as well) and according to him, since she has school she’s not going to pay anything. As of July 8th 2009 they have both signed a lease agreement to pay 450 plus half of what the bills come to. I now have a notice stating that the power will be turned off in 24 hours (Monday at the lastest, but I don’t want to wait that long), luckily I have a father that will not let me go without power and is willing, but not happily, loaning me the money to pay for the power. This month alone they own me $683.73 (450 rent and half of bills). They keep stating they have no money (which I am a very open easy person talk to when it’s done in a timely manner), but 3 out of 4 of us work at the same job and I know when payday is. If I can make my rent and pay my part of the bills (which we’ve already called the power company, if we pay half the power will still be shut off) then they should be able to too. My fiance is unemployeed, he gets unemployment but that barely makes the bills, I pay the rent and then some because of back rent that is owed. The lease agreement states rent is due in full by the 15th (we we’re running this as a trial month since they signed it later then the 1st) it also states that 150 plus what is due for bills is paid first paycheck of month (since that is our billing cycle) the do have a grace period of 5 days after the 15th since not all pay periods are before the 15th.
Anyways (and I am sooooo sorry this is long) what can I do? I am sooooo stressed about this, I can’t sleep. I would just like to scream, but if I do someone might hear and call the cops lol. I’d rather just evict them and deal with the rent and bills myself again. We did this as a favor to them and a favor to us, so far I see nothing but me being screwed. HELP please!
Thank you!

You need to evict them. They are loser and will use you as long as you allow them to. They will spend their lives leeching off of others.
Ask him for rent and if he does not cough it up give them both a 30 day notice, have 2 witnesses.
After 30 days you can call the police and get the Dead Beats out of your house.
Learn your lesson! Everyone chooses their own life! Losers may have sob stories, but there are real reasons why their own family can’t stand them! No one changes their ethics, this guy was bad news and will remain bad news.
look it depends on your local laws but give 30 days notice if the lease was signed with you,if with your dad then he has to evict them, also it can take several months to get them out if you have to go to court. What ever you do don’t change the locks ,don’t move any clothes or anything of that nature, do it legally ask the police what the eviction law is . Good lock
