Two years ago, and straight out of college, I bought a used car privately (from an acquaintance, without going through a dealer). I needed the cash quick to make the deal, so I took out a “personal loan”, unsecured. This means I hold the title to the car (which I wouldn’t have if I’d gotten an auto loan), but the bad news is that I pay exorbitant interest rates on this loan, since the car wasn’t recognized as collateral.

Is there any way to “go back” and refinance the personal loan at least in part as an auto loan? In other words, can I put the car up for collateral in order to get a better interest rate?
I have pretty good credit (around 750) and have never missed a payment. I just don’t want to have paid twice the loan amount in interest by the time I’m done.

Im a college student who is trying to build up credit from scratch
by getting a credit card with small limits. ( secured if worst case )
I need a car for a college If I were to commute to college.
I have no credit nor co-signer. and I’ve heard from multiple people
saying that Dealers will get you the loan. but with high % APR
paying 10~20% apr. Im ok with the high interest . because I know my situation
Im trying to get a loan for $10000, and downpay about $4000 to buy a $14000 car.
Does the “lender” which dealers find you. apply the interest rate for $10000 ? or some
randomly ridiculously high $ amount ?

It will be really helpful If somebody with an experience like this could answer.
Thank you

I’ve heard that dealers get people with no credit/bad/no-cosigner/
a loan from one of those “scam-looking” loan company ( looks like a retail store) with
Enormous and Ridiculous Apr %.
and

I just got a loan from JP Morgan Chase for a used 2000 Audi A6 with 88,000 miles. The dealer told me that because its expensive to work on he would suggest a waranty. But also because it has a Turbo engine, it would be pointless for me to go with a basic one. The one (out of the three) called the PLUS plan he said would cover a turbo engine but he said it would go for around $3500 for 2 yrs. Do I have to go with the “brand” waranty company suggested by the dealer?,… or is there another waranty provider I can use… Do they need to be approved first by JP Morgan or something?… Or does $3500 sound fair? Are there any auto dealers or ASE guys willin’ to help me with this question?…. Thanks a bunch.

She was just notified that the new adjustable rate will be 8.63% adjust. (approx. 100.00/month more!). My question is: Should she refinance so that she doesn’t pay 100./mo. more? And if it is a good idea to refinance, please explain what the pros and cons of refinancing are, and what she should be looking for. I believe the value of the property is supposed to be $110,000.00 now.
(please tell me what details you might need to better assess the situation so that you can provide resolution options)
Thanks, in advance – She will need to make a decision within the next three or four days – PLEASE HELP!!!!

Also, this I enter this in the correct Yahoo Answers category? (credit)
Thanks for the answers so far. Can you also be more specific as to “what her goal should be?” It it reasonable to request/look for another 7.11 fixed? Also, any negative side to refinancing?

I am a 20yr old female. I have had a credit card for a little over a year now. Starting limit was $500, now it is up to $2000. I pay my credit card off before it’s due. I did have student loans that I paid off. My credit score is 718. I make (average) $2,400 a month. I pay my college tuition using my credit card (but I pay it off before it’s due) When I applied for my loan I had a 37% credit available on my credit card due to college. I have a higher percentage now because I paid it off. Could that be the reason why they denied me? I have $4,000 in the bank right now. I applied for a $23,000 loan in 4.5yrs. I live with my parents. My other bills consist of my cell, gym membership, and car insurance. Could it also be because I haven’t had credit long enough, is the amount that I asked too much? I am need of a new vehicle to get back and forth to school and work, I want to buy a hybrid for gas and environment. The 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid is my choice! Also I applied through my bank! Thxs
