I just wondered if they can come take your car for not paying back a payday loan? Is that why they ask about what your license plate number is?

They can not take your car unless it was put up as collateral for the loan.
What they can do is take you to court, sue and get a judgment, at that point they can attach bank accounts, garnish wages (if your State allows it) and file liens on any real property you may own like cars, boats, land and homes.
Most times they only go after your cash in the bank or garnish your wages.
